I’ve tried getting my son referred via my gp surgery using the right to choose (a friend of mine chose the company she wanted her daughter to be assessed by and her gp referred her to them) my gp is saying they are unable to accept their shared care agreement for under 18 year olds for certain companies is this a sole problem with that surgery so if I change surgeries would it be different I’m really confused.
Hi, someone posted a similar question recently, showing you’re not alone with this sort of situation. I hope you’re able to find a helpful way forward for your child soon.
A lot of the Right to Choose providers for ADHD are adults only, with some exceptions, which are limited. For children under 18 years, their school or education provider might usually be able to offer additional support with referring alongside their GP, or through CAMHS for urgent needs. However, your local area can also come into this, with certain restrictions currently in place in some areas across the UK.
Here is a link to providers, wait times, and information about NHS areas imposing restrictions on new Right to Choose assessments.
