Hi I’m currently on titration with psychiatryUK through an NHS right to choose referral. My meds are issued through the private pharmacy group until it goes to shared care.
I pay for my NHS prescriptions and I’m stuck on how to do this as I haven’t been given an option to pay. I’ve contacted PPG and they said it’s covered by right to choose and to speak to psych UK, which I’ve done. I’m unsure on how to pay as I don’t want to be liable for a fine. Any advice appreciated.
Hi, yes the crossover between private and shared care can sometimes feel a bit unclear, and you’re not alone in wanting clarity on the process!
The Right to Choose route through Psychiatry UK should usually provide your prescription at no cost (NHS funded) during titration and before being handed over to shared care. For full reassurance you could contact Psychiatry UK directly through your portal to confirm and have it in writing.
Sorry for jumping on the bandwagon, but I cannot create my own post for some reason
My daughter was diagnosed privately with ADHD when she was 15. She is nearly 18 and would like to try meds, but our family Doctor has said she has to go back to the private doctor, or go through another assessment with Right to Choose. Surely she shouldn’t have to be re-assessed to get medication through NHS?
Hi, it’s also absolutely fine to join another thread and thanks for sharing.
Let us know if you try posting again in the future and have any further issues.
Following private diagnosis, NHS 26/27 payment guidance says that private ADHD diagnoses can be presented and considered for the NHS referral pathway. However, NHS services may still decide to reassess before NHS funded treatment starts.
I appreciate that it can be a tricky situation to be in and raise questions similar to what you’ve shared here. If your daughter is required to go through reassessment, and they’d like to take the ‘right to choose’ pathway, the link below has further information alongside links to wait times with nationwide providers.
I hope you’re able to find a helpful way forward, and feel free to share any other thoughts or questions as things progress.
