My son Matthew
Good Day My son Matthew is 21 he has ADHD , he emigrated to England with my husband and they are now applying for settlement visas. With the settlement he has to do the Life in the UK test. Matthew wanted to start in this country without saying he has ADHD, however he tried to do the Life in the UK Test 3 times and failed. Matthew has always battled with schoolwork ,any sort of test. He is having nightmares and loads of anxiety. We would like to find a doctor who would be able to fill out a waiver request form for his life in the uk test. I have some documents from a doctor here when we lived in walton on thames as well as a letter from his paediatrician in Cape Town to explain what he has been going through, throughout his life. I am a doctoral student currently working on my dissertation, which focuses on sexual health in young women with ADHD. I have been giving a lot of thought to how to formulate the title linguistically in order to make it as inclusive as possible. English is also not my first language, which makes it a bit harder for me to fully understand the nuances.
Is it preferable to say “Sexual health in young women with ADHD” or “Sexual health in young women living with ADHD”?
And is perhaps “among” a better choice than “in”?

Hi. I live in Cornwall and I’m trying to find where I can have a right to choose AuDHD combined assessment. My GPs do not know. do you know of anyone finding this or I’ve found a provider but they said I needed to live in London. can I just say that I’m living in London for a while (with my brother) and use the clinic that does provide them there?
I’m not sure if you will find a doctor to sign a waiver but hopefully someone here will have the knowledge to help.

I’m asking this question for myself.
My name is Jimena and I have always been high-functioning with a lot of ADHD traits but when I was young my mum decided to not get me diagnosed, but to coach me herself and build coping mechanisms.
I’m 24 now, I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in September 2025 and the Home Treatment Team from Walthamstow visited me for 14 days to give me sertraline. Afterwards, there was miscommunication between my GP and the HTT so I wasn’t given a prescription for sertraline. I continued with my depressive and anxious symptoms until January where the suicidal thoughts came back. I was under a lot of work stress since July 2025, and I took sertraline for two months (January-February 2026), until I had a paranoia episode which landed me in A&E during a work trip abroad (March 2026). Now, my GP diagnosed me with work induced stress and anxiety and depression, but I’m not anxious nor depressive by nature. I am on medical leave for 4 weeks, and I did a private screening with Psicon which the outcome was to continue with the private diagnosis.
The cost of this is £1200, which would add financial stress at a time where I’m already on Statutory Sick Pay. Would there be a chance of getting a referral through right to choose for psicon, and what should be my next steps? Thank you.

Thank you for sharing. When booking the test, you can request reasonable adjustments if disclosing an ADHD diagnosis. A letter from the GP confirming the diagnosis, and M’s challenges and needs would support the request.
There’s also a formal exemption process if a condition makes sitting the test unreasonable, even with adjustments. Still, the threshold for that is high, and ADHD alone is unlikely to qualify without other factors.

Do reach out to your GP for further support if you are experiencing any further challenges with your mental health. Regarding the referral, you can request the Right to Choose with Psicon. Ask your GP to send Psicon’s referral form using their NHS email. If your GP has any concerns, let them know that Psicon is commissioned by Surrey Heartlands and Sussex ICB for adults. There are more details and current wait times on their website:

Hi - I was told by my GP an NHS appt for adult ADHD assesssment could take over 3 yrs. I had BUPA with my work at the time which covered diagnosis but not treatment so I was able to get a private psychiatrist appt and I got a combined ADHD diagnosis. This was end Jan 2025. I got a shared care agreement with my GP and got life changing meds. I had to up my dosage 2 months ago and then my GP suddenly told me that the shared care agreement should never have been accepted (she was on sick leave at the time it was agreed) and that the NHS weren’t covering adult ADHD private diagnosis only those for kids and if I wanted to get meds on the nhs I would need to get an NHS diagnosis. So currently I’m having to pay £90 a month for my Elvanse tablets which isn’t sustainable. Is there anyway I can go with Right to Choose to get my meds prescribed on the NHS?

I am very much struggling with the website as I can’t seem to find a provider to do assessment and if necessary treatment in the Sussex area. Can you help? I was asking my GP today to help me with getting the ball rolling for an ADHD/Autism test/diagnosis. I got an unhelpful reply from them and I’m kinda stuck on what to do.

Hi all,
I’m a bit confused about how ADHD care works under RTC and hoping someone has experience with this.
I was with PUK (Psychiatry UK) and have only been on Elvanse for about 4 weeks (including 2 weeks on 70mg). I was then told I was nearing the end of titration and asked if I wanted to be discharged to GP under shared care.
To me this feels quite rushed, as I haven’t really had time to explore different doses or medication combinations, and I don’t feel like my treatment is fully optimised.
After discharge was suggested, I also struggled to get responses from my prescriber, and had to contact the helpline to arrange medication, which made things more confusing in terms of who is actually managing my care.
I also reached out to PUK to ask whether my medication could be reviewed or adjusted, but was told that this would require a new referral.
This is where I’m confused — if my care hasn’t really been completed or fully optimised, why would I need a new referral?
So I’m trying to understand where I stand now.
Am I still considered “under their care”, or does being discharged to GP mean that episode is closed?
And if it is closed, does that mean I would need a completely new referral for further medication changes — and could I then choose a different provider (e.g. not PUK)?
Just trying to figure out what my options actually are here.

I have a form from my doctor I filled out, it’s taken me a bit of time to do. But I’ve to write on it my chosen ‘right to choose’ provider.
I am trying to research which is my nearest provider, I’m located in Wellingborough but having a very difficult time finding this information.
is there any chance you can help me? It’s really important to me I get this done because I cannot keep struggling anymore. I’d really appreciate it.
