Hello there,
I have been diagnosed recently via a private insurance company and get first prescription privately which was very expenseive. I went to my GP and they added me to the ADHD list, but said it amybe years before being added to the system and get NHS medication.
The private insurance doctor said it is up to the GP to accept/or not taking shared responsibility (after at least 3 reviews by the private insurance). I need these medications to get my personal and professional life on the right track. Any advise please.
My son (15years old) has been diagnosed as well via East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Service (after several tests and checks in hospitals), however has been on waiting list over a year awaiting to see a dotcor for medications.Any advise on how we can speed this up as he has 4 GCSE this year and the symtoms are severly impacting his performace and behaviour.
Many thanks in advance.
Hi thanks for posting.
If you’re told that the wait list for shared care is years then it likely worth requesting that you request your ‘Riight to choose’ through your GP. A list of waiting times for right to choose services and an overview of RTC are below via the link.
Some GPs will accept a shared care agreement but this can be dependant on your local area and integrated care board (ICB) protocol in that area. The specific provider you’re currently with can also affect the decision about shared care agreements etc.
There’s a link with more information on the ‘Right to Choose’ pathway and current wait times:
The same ‘right to choose’ pathway could be explored for your son’s treatment but age limits vary across providers as you might have read. Alongside this you could ask CAMHS, the school and the GP about local interim support that is offered in your local area.
I hope both and your son find helpful ways forward and you find you face less of a wait than originally expected.
