Advice needed :)

Hi,

I would love some guidance from those more experienced than me here!

My daughter is 8, and severely behind at school, I have ADHD and my son was recently diagnosed autistic and ADHD. His learning got so heavily impacted, and his mental health that we have removed him from state School. She fits a lot of criteria for ADHD, now I waited 3+ years for son’s diagnosis, and due to her failing so far behind, I want to get her assessed privately. I have contacted my GP to ask about shared care, but could someone help me understand how to find a provider that complies with NICE guidelines? In addition if she was assessed privately and the gp refused share care, can I go through the NHS afterwards?

Hi, thanks for posting and welcome  Here’s a resource below which talks about diagnosis pathways for Children in the UK:

In terms of private assessment, yes, you could go through the NHS following a refusal of shared care from your GP. If you’re in England it’s worth having a look at the ‘right to choose’ pathway (link below)

When searching for any provider and ADHD assessment you can search for ‘NICE compliant’ as well as confirming the GMC number of the clinician carrying out the assessment (this can be searched for on the General Medical Council site).

I hope you’re able to find a pathway that is helpful and supportive for your daughter soon. Feel free to post any more questions as they come up
