Hi,
I recently went through a paid, private assessment and received an ADHD diagnosis where they recommended I go on medication.
Because I paid for the private assessment, I now can’t afford to pay for titration privately. Is there any way I can go to the NHS to begin the titration process? Or can I only ‘switch’ to the NHS if I’ve gone through titration privately and have a steady dose?
I really need help as I am struggling a lot and would just like to begin the titration process as soon as I can. Thank you to anyone that can help or share guidance.
Hi, thanks for posting and welcome to the forum,
You could look into the ‘Right to Choose’ pathway via GP referral if in England (link below with provider wait times). If you share where you are currently based, then I or others can hopefully offer some more thoughts on it.
Hi,
I went to my GP and they said they don’t offer titration because I’ve gone through a private provider (Care ADHD).
I’m based in Sunderland. Could anyone provide guidance as to how I’d go about approaching my GP about putting me on to the correct pathway JUST for titration? I would like to think they’re not trying to deny service, they may just don’t know what they should be doing if someone requests referral for the titration part ONLY? Can I only go through ‘Right to Choose’ (RTC) if I have an assessment AND titration done with the same provider. Or can/should my GP refer me to RTC if I request for Titration only. I understand that assessment and titration has to be with the same provider, that’s why I went with Care ADHD because I saw they were on the RTC network. I just want my GP to refer me to the same provider through RTC.
I hope this makes sense, thanks for any help anyone can give.
Hi, thanks for sharing the further info.
Some providers will accept an existing private ADHD diagnosis and may move you into titration or ‘transfer of care’ without a full reassessment, but they will still review your diagnosis report (each provider’s criteria are different and its best to check).
After confirming the provider offers Right to Choose and transfer of care, you can tell your GP you have a private diagnosis, medication titration has not been accessible and you’d like a referral under the NHS Choice framework. They will then usually review your current diagnosis and decide whether to accept the transfer of care.
If anyone in the community has any experiences of this, please feel free to share them here!
