Hello, I’m having a really difficult time with Problem Shared, who I was referred to for an adult ADHD assessment in January 2025. I waited until the August of that year before being assessed and diagnosed with combined type. I was then informed there would be another wait to be assessed for medication. This finally happened in June this year and the assessor told me I needed to have several blood tests and an ECG done by my GP before treatment could proceed, due to a pre-existing medical condition I suffer from. This condition, hyperthyroidism, was of course listed in my original referral.
I phoned Problem Shared’s helpline today to find out when I will have my next appointment because I hadn’t heard anything from them since sending in all the test results some weeks ago. I was eventually told that my test results haven’t been ‘processed’ yet but when they are sent to the clinical team ‘in a week or two’ there will be another 8 week wait before my case can be assessed. Then ‘if’ the team decides I am suitable for treatment I might get an appointment in November…
I am really upset and disappointed. When I chose this provider the wait-list was supposedly 8 months but it was not made clear there would be an additional lengthy wait to be assessed for medication. It will be almost two years in total before I start treatment - if they decide it can go ahead! I really wish I had opted to go on an NHS waiting list instead. Does anyone know if I can be transferred back to NHS now? And will I have to start from the beginning again even though I’ve been diagnosed?
