NHS Prescription through RTC

I am currently on the titration waitlist through a RTC provider, judging by their published times I should be being seen in the next month or so.

Today my GP told me that GP surgeries in North West Surrey are “no longer commissioned to prescribe ADHD medications or to enter into Shared Care Agreements with private providers”.

I thought that because I’d gone through RTC, any prescription from the provider would be an NHS prescription. I couldn’t possibly afford a private prescription let alone private appointments. I’m terrified that my GP will just let this go, and I don’t understand what the point of RTC is if the GP requires me to go through the NHS and it’s years-long waiting list before prescribing. Is there anything I can do?

Hi, thanks for sharing.

The sudden changes to local shared care guidance are putting yourself and a lot of people in a position they didn’t have any reason to expect when they went through the assessment process, and it’s a really tough situation to be in.

Has your GP shared what options are available locally given the change, or the prescriber given any guidance their side?

The prescriber has now said they will provide an NHS prescription, I guess charged to the local care board. This seems at odds with what my GP has said but I’m inclined to go with the RTC provider over the GP as they’d have more specialist knowledge/information.

I won’t get my hopes up until I have an NHS prescription physically in my hands but I’m hoping this is a positive resolution.

Wishing the best for you. Below is a link to a range of further information including a new assessment data and right to choose options search based on your local area:
