Right to choose medication charges

Hi,

I may be missing something entirely here, but is there an easy way to work out what medication prescription charges will be with each provider if your GP doesn’t accept shared care?

I’ve been looking on providers websites (it’s for an almost 7 year old), but it’s really not clear, unless I’m missing something, how to work out whether, if our GP doesn’t accept shared care (still awaiting an appt with them so I will confirm), whether the providers would still prescribe at NHS prescription charges or whether we would need to pay the private amount?

Thanks in advance, I think my brain has taken in too much information on the topic and I’m struggling to see the wood for the trees.

Hi, was the ADHD assessment through Right to Choose (RTC) or private?

If it were through RTC, you’d usually receive prescriptions from your provider at the usual NHS prescription fee. For private medication fees, it’s best to write a blanket email and send it to the main providers you are interested in to save time, as it’s not very clear on websites, as you say. Private medication costs for children can vary widely.

If you’re happy to share which Integrated Care Board your GP is under, I (or others) can give more specific information.

Hi, thank you for your reply!

We haven’t had a diagnosis as yet, just embarking on RTC but aware we will have to choose a provider so want to make sure we don’t choose one where we’ll later run into issues with medication / prescription costs if it’s needed!

We come under West Yorkshire ICB if that’s helpful!

That’s understandable and definitely worth checking

  1. List of current approved providers from the WY partnership site:

You can still select from the second list on the link after confirming with the provider and GP. The first list is the official contracts currently set. Of course then it will be a case of seeing if they are accepting referrals for Children and Young people.

  1. West Yorkshire Child assessment data (select the ‘ADHD Child assessment’ tab and scroll to the bottom of the page):

This will soon be updated (you can sign up with your email for updates, and it is recommended to contact providers first to double check their current wait times, etc.).

  1. National RTC Provider data (select the ‘ADHD Child assessment’ tab):
