It has become increasingly apparent that I need an adult ADHD test. There appears to be long waits on the NHS (even with right to choose). Cost to go private are not transparent. On-line there are a number of providers that are considerably cheaper that others, are they too good to be true? Many offer a diagnosis at around c. £1,000 but the ongoing costs are unclear and prescriptions are not included. Any idea of the total cost of a diagnosis and on-going treatment would be very helpful.
I’m not sure of exact numbers, but after your assesment, if diagnosed some of the costs include
- Titration (which is the proses of starting medication): I believe you would need to pay for each appointment which is about 1 per month for about 6 months
- Prescriptions: not only will you need to pay for the prescription but it is significantly more expensive than an NHS prescription.
If you are going down the medication route. After your titration you can your prescription transferred to the NHS. But this comes with its very own set of complications.

Hi, if you do consider the Right to Choose pathway again, here are some links with options including current waitlist times by provider.
Its also good to check if there are restrictions in your area. Each provider’s website usually confirm a list Integrated Care Board (ICB) areas they’re currently accepting referrals from, and then from there you can contact your GP with your chosen provider for referral.
The new tracker below is also a starting point for current wait times and regional restrictions.
