Will going the private route impact an ongoing RTC?

Hello, just wanted to clarify something. If i was to use RTC to a specific provider but then go the private route for the next year or so will that have any impact on my RTC? Can i just tell my RTC provider in a year or so that i already have a private diagnosis, ive been taking X at Y amount and then they just rediagnose me or whatever they need to do?

Ive been putting off starting the process with the nhs and now found out there is a blanket 52 week delay with RTC providers in the area i will be moving to in a few months, hence me considering just going the private route for a year or two as a place holder.

Hi, thanks for the post and welcome!

Yes, that’s right. Going private for assessment and treatment doesn’t affect a Right to Choose assessment or your place on the wait list. The referral date would be the same, and you’d be assessed as usual through RTC.

I have read that it is possible that if the NHS sees that i am under private care elsewhere that they could potentially cancel my RTC as im deemed to be cared for anyway. Is this true or even remotely possible? I cant verify any sources that say it is or isnt possible.

Hi, if you have the source where you read this and happy to share it might me or others give some more guidance

A GP can refuse shared care for medication which started privately depending on local policies and the ICB (integrated care board), but going private shouldn’t cancel your place on an NHS Right to Choose or NHS care.
